Clearly, the price of failure is a repeat engagement. You see, I didn't buy anything the last trip to the stores. I left a beaten man. The answer was that my wife decided she had to spend the day looking at the many different kinds of Evenflo infant carseat. Which plainly meant that I wanted to spend the day looking at it too. I was handed the job of going back out to shop. She insisted on coming with me however. My guess is that it was to prevent me from returning with nada again. Of course, the first thing that I had to bring up about this spectacular plan was that there was truly no reason for me to be there at all. The chore of being her official bag carrier was mine. I think she also wanted the witty conversation, even if I do say so myself.

I have noticed this freaky tendency she has to try to use shopping as a social, bonding, getting-together sort of event. Even when it's for something as seemingly simple as an Evenflo infant carseat. I can scarcely even imagine how this works. It's utterly against my motivations for purchasing goods. Her motivations are her own. My beautiful wife, Cindy, doesn't have hardly any shopping friends. I have consistently thought that to be peculiar. My sister has had several at any period in her life for as long as I can remember. People who would jubilantly spend all their spare moments looking through mountains of hats and perfumes and knick knacks of every sort with her. Anything went with them too. I can't remember particular excursions, but I would not be surprised if they had gone out after an Evenflo infant carseat themselves a time or two. They treated going shopping as I would treat going out to dinner or to the local tavern with my friends.
It's too bad but my wife is low on friends who share her interests. In fact, she has precisely one. They don't meet too much however. She lives a good distance away. I probably would not have gotten saddled with going shopping if that weren't the case. She would've been the perfect choice to go about browsing for an Evenflo infant carseat rather than me. And I would have been off the hook. No such good fortune though.
How my sister worked it out so she has constantly had an abundance of friends is beyond me. I think it really has to do with knowing what it is that you need and cultivating friendships that meet those requirements. The same pastimes and everything. Maybe she just got the gift of personality. All the world has invariably loved my sis. Our parents earned themselves a lot of wrinkles as she was growing up. She was caught red-handed doing all the usual things you're not supposed to be doing. Fibbing about where she was going to be, not going to school, living fast. That rebellious nature involved, of course, some bozos that seemed to be specially picked just to give Mom and Dad heart attacks on the spot. This was her M.O. I was always the good child.
Those years are long gone though. And in the long run, the two of us made something of ourselves. When everything is over with, that's what all parents truly hope for. We all have trials and tribulations that we need to get through with our family members. If your mother and father are there to help you and with a bit of luck, you get through it. Now if I could only get through this tough patch right now. The part of my existence now known as the hunt for the Evenflo infant carseat. I would do a dance of joy.
It did occur to me to encourage my sister to get over here and go on shopping expeditions with my wife. We have settled down in the same county now. But then it came to me - how perfectly nutty that thought was! The very last thing that I need is miss wild child giving my wife funny ideas! Yes, that was a joke. Kinda... Sorta... Possibly... Maybe...
No worries. These shopping trips to the mall aren't the worst experience ever. My bark is far worse than my bite in this case. As long as my wife is with me, I can even put up with the mall. Even after all the years, I still can't ever get enough of her. And no, we didn’t buy an Evenflo infant carseat even with her there too. The mall has triumphed over me once again, this run with my wife bearing witness to it too, merely to add insult to injury. We are cursed to go back there once again on my next day off from work. Somehow I'm not too upset by it. More time on a mission with my wife isn't a bad thing at all.
